Review by Catherine Garceau

The Triple Concerto In C by Beethoven, featuring the legendary musicians Oistrakh, Rostropovich, Richter, and Karajan, is an exceptional album that showcases the virtuosity and musicality of these incredible artists. The album features three of Beethoven's most famous works, including the Triple Concerto for Violin, Cello, and Piano, as well as the Symphony No. 1 and the Symphony No. 3, also known as the "Eroica".

The Triple Concerto is a masterpiece of musical collaboration, with each musician bringing their unique talents to the performance. Oistrakh's violin playing is rich and expressive, while Rostropovich's cello adds depth and resonance to the music. Richter's piano playing is precise and dynamic, and Karajan's conducting brings out the full power of the orchestra.

The Symphony No. 1 is a lively and joyful work, with Beethoven's signature use of melody and rhythm. The Symphony No. 3 is a more dramatic and powerful work, with Beethoven pushing the boundaries of classical music with his use of structure and harmony.

German composer and pianist, born in 1770 (baptized 17 December 1770) in Bonn, Germany and died 26 March 1827 in Vienna, Austria. A crucial figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in classical music. Beethoven led Viennese Classicism to its highest development and paved the way for Romantic music. Beethoven was the eldest son of a singer in the Kapelle of the Archbishop-Elector of Cologne and grandson of the Archbishop's Kapellmeister. He moved in 1792 to Vienna, where he had some lessons from Haydn and others, quickly establishing himself as a remarkable keyboard-player and original composer. By 1815 increasing deafness made public performance impossible and accentuated existing eccentricities of character, patiently tolerated by a series of rich patrons and his royal pupil the Archduke Rudolph. Beethoven did much to enlarge the possibilities of music and widen the horizons of later generations of composers. To his contemporaries he was sometimes a controversial figure, making heavy demands on listeners both by the length and by the complexity of his writing, as he explored new fields of music.

The 3 russian legends, Richter, Oistrakh and Rostropovich together, that is real history, probably the best performance of the triple concerto, may be beside Fournier, Schneiderhan, Anda and Fricsay.

So much time past, the recording is the same, I'm begging to enjoy it more and more. I could hardly believe that I was lucky to listen great Richter, Oystrakh, Rostropovich live. I'm old while they are the same.

There was a certain degree of ascetism in the style of Rostropovich and especially Richter, Oystrakh and that is what admire, may it was a sign of their epoch: reserved power, maintained, contained, revealed at rear moments as a explosion. This leaves a lot for a listener to anticipate and then to rejoice at the moment of recognition.
