Review by May Hayworth

At This Moment Peanut Butter is the fifth album by Billy Vera & The Beaters, released in 1981. The album features the band's signature blend of rock, R&B, and soul, with a touch of country and blues.

The album's title track, "At This Moment," became a surprise hit in 1986 after being featured on the TV show Family Ties. The song's emotional lyrics and Vera's soulful vocals struck a chord with audiences, and it quickly climbed the charts to become a #1 hit.

But the album has much more to offer than just its hit single. From the upbeat rockabilly of "Millie, Make Some Chili" to the slow-burning blues of "I'm Not Sleeping," the album showcases the band's versatility and musical range.

To my first daughter, I'm faced with the knowledge that you just don't love me anymore.
I cry because I've never done anything to hurt you.
I cry because you know that.
I cry because you've taken me for granted and thrown me away.

There’s a coupled nerve, the puddle of a muffled word, the two consistencies consistently walk on curbs, trying to jump sidewalks, with a light fault that stops on hers, trying to avoid a fight, holding back the hand with a plant in the white chalk, drawing to conclusions, facing illusions, the seriousness pierces through a time lost, minds serve a sign crossed, engraving a pavement, with nice words and lying tops, laying a foundation for use, losing truth in the love with fine cloth, washing distance with a persistent urge, tripping off curves, seeing love is blind when opened at particular eye drops, salt water valleys twist like herbs adding flavors you never knew grew with fine salt, pepper sprays the masculinity, with toxic femininity pulsating in the soul where man used to go for nice talks, now he lost his way, but her hate doesn’t water the same street they used to roam and climb rock, a mountain from a mole hill where her chill no longer isolates the pain in his heart when her light’s off, hoping she’ll switch back on, singing his sad song to walls where paint peels to reveal a statement you can’t wipe off.

THIS is missing from every singer of today…find love…✌️

Amazing singers don’t need to be too much…it’s one of the best songs ever made, but it’s so simplistic. No special effects, no big budget, no back up dancers, no rap…he’s not a powerful singer, but a singer with a powerful message….I feel bad for people who don’t think love is the most important experience in life…
