Review by Teresa Kidwell Bunch Anderson

Brasamba, the album by Bud Shank with Clare Fischer, is a delightful and captivating musical journey that takes the listener on a trip through the vibrant and colorful world of Brazilian music. The album features a blend of traditional Brazilian rhythms and melodies, jazz improvisation, and classical music elements, creating a unique and engaging sound that is both familiar and fresh.

The album's opening track, "Brasamba," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its energetic and upbeat rhythm, featuring Shank's soaring saxophone lines and Fischer's intricate piano work. The album also features several beautiful ballads, including "Lamento," a hauntingly beautiful song that showcases Shank's lyrical saxophone playing and Fischer's lush harmonic textures.

Throughout the album, Shank and Fischer demonstrate their impressive musicianship and their deep understanding of Brazilian music. Their performances are both technically impressive and emotionally expressive, creating a sound that is both intellectually engaging and emotionally resonant.
