Charles Mingus - Statements

Review by walter lewis

Statements by Charles Mingus is an exceptional album that showcases the sheer brilliance of the legendary jazz bassist and composer. The album features a collection of Mingus' compositions that are characterized by their complex and intricate arrangements, unpredictable structures, and powerful emotional intensity.

The album opens with the explosive track "Haitian Fight Song," which sets the tone for the rest of the album with its driving rhythms, soaring melodies, and explosive solos. Other standout tracks include "Blue Cee," a hauntingly beautiful ballad that features some of Mingus' most poignant and expressive playing, and "Passions of a Woman Loved," a sprawling epic that showcases Mingus' mastery of form and structure.

Throughout the album, Mingus is joined by an all-star cast of musicians, including saxophonists Jackie McLean and John Handy, trumpeter Booker Little, and drummer Dannie Richmond, who all contribute to the album's rich and vibrant sound.

Bobby Jones is the clarinet player
suardidaniele
Of course - the clarinet sounds like a clarinet. If something sounds like a clarinet and has the range of notes of a clarinet, it is a clarinet...

More interesting question: who is that clarinet player?
albuqari
Sure sounds like a clarinet, not an alto sax.
