Cheryl Lynn - At Last Youre Mine

Review by Stefano Ferruggiara

At Last You're Mine, the 1985 album by Cheryl Lynn, is a soulful and upbeat collection of tracks that showcases the singer's powerful voice and range. The album's title track is a standout, with its catchy chorus and funky bassline, but there are plenty of other highlights as well, including the groovy "Encore," the romantic ballad "Every Time I Try to Say Goodbye," and the disco-infused "Daybreak (Storybook Children)." Lynn's vocals are consistently impressive throughout, and the production is polished and well-crafted. At Last You're Mine is a must-listen for fans of '80s R&B and anyone looking for a dose of feel-good music.

Cheryl Lynn & Michael Bolton (the writer) got ROBBED so bad of a huge Top 40 & Adult Contemporary hit that they deserved! This is a gorgeous ballad with a perfect mixture of Pop, Rock & Soul (from Cheryl's vocals). Similar to Chaka Khan's 'Through The Fire'. If promoted properly this would have fit in perfectly on any 1980's Pop/AC format.

Black artists really were mistreated in the immediate Post-Disco era (1981 to 1986). They were expected to tone down their R&B leanings (at the expense of their core audience) and record more Pop friendly material. And when they did record quality Pop/AC material like this ballad, Mainstream Radio/MTV/VH1 still didn't get behind them! LOL. Only a handful of Black Acts walked away from this era with any major success.
