Review by ishtar journal

Claus Poulsen's latest album, Splinter Chamber, is a mesmerizing and thought-provoking work of art. The Danish composer and sound artist has created a collection of tracks that blend together elements of ambient, experimental, and electronic music to create a truly unique and immersive listening experience.

From the opening track, "Splinter Chamber I," Poulsen sets the tone for the album with a haunting and atmospheric piece that slowly builds in intensity before fading away. The rest of the album follows suit, with each track offering its own distinct sound and mood.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Spectral Dust," which features a hypnotic and rhythmic beat that is layered with eerie soundscapes and distorted vocals. The result is a track that is both unsettling and captivating.

Another highlight is "The Great Divide," which begins with a sparse and minimalist sound before gradually building to a crescendo of noise and chaos. It's a thrilling and unpredictable track that showcases Poulsen's ability to create tension and drama through his music.

About Claus Poulsen

Claus Poulsen (b. 1968) is an improvising musician and producer living in Copenhagen, Denmark, who has been a part of the electronic and experimental scene since 1995, when he formed the noise-ensemble Alarm112. CP has continued with a number of projects since then, making solo performances and releases a priority in the last few years. The name of the game is free improvisation, experimentation and artistic challenge. CP plays both non-instruments (amplified objects, dictaphone, turntable, bonsai tree), instruments (string instruments, keyboards, percussion) and electronics (laptop, effects, synthesizer). In recent years, CP developed the C-Bow (now called the Clausophone), which is a cymbal played with a bass bow, using extended techniques. A versatile improviser, his music projects span across genres such as ambient (solo), noise, direct action lo-fi improv (Star Turbine), powerjazz (Blind Mans Band) and drone / soundscape (solo and CAM). CP is highly active releasing cassettes, CDs and vinyl and tours frequently in Denmark and Europe. Sample of the C-Bow: https://soundcloud.com/clauspoulsen/make-a-jazz-noise-here-preview
