The Delroys - Bermuda Shorts

Review by Just Pascalis

Bermuda Shorts, the latest album by Delroys, is a refreshing take on the classic rock genre. The band's signature blend of blues and rock is evident throughout the album, but they also incorporate elements of funk and soul to create a unique sound.

The album opens with the upbeat track "Good Times," which sets the tone for the rest of the record. The catchy guitar riffs and infectious chorus make it a standout track. "Runaway" is another highlight, with its driving rhythm and soulful vocals.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Bermuda Shorts," which features a funky bassline and catchy lyrics. The song is a perfect representation of the band's ability to seamlessly blend different genres into their music.

The album also features slower, more introspective tracks such as "Lost in Translation" and "Lonely Road." These songs showcase the band's versatility and ability to create emotional depth in their music.

In August [of 1957], Apollo's Charlie Merenstein reported that "Bermuda Shorts" was doing well in Detroit and called for DJs across the country to run "Bermuda shorts contests." Mary Dee (of WSID in Baltimore) was a jock who sponsored one. Two winners (the blurb didn't say what, exactly, the contest was about or how winners were chosen) were invited to the WSID studios to pick up copies of the record and gift certificates to a clothing store to get some shorts of their own. By September, Merenstein bragged that the disc was hitting the charts in Baltimore, Washington, and Chicago. On September 2, it was a Tip in Detroit. It was certainly all over the airwaves in New York City. In spite of all the local chart action, however, the tune never made it to the national charts.
