About Digno Garcia

Songwriter and virtuoso player of the Paraguayan-harp, born in Morascué, Luque, Paraguay on September 22, 1919. Following lengthy tours with the Ayala Aquino ensemble and other groups, 1947 saw Digno join Los Guaireños, performing alongside , and Humberto Barua in Mexico, Cuba and throughout Central America until 1949. In 1954, he was called upon to re-join Luis and Agustín, this time on an "Official Cultural Mission" in Europe where the were soon signed to . At the end of the mission, Digno remained in Belgium under the auspices of producer and continued touring and recording with , and his own group, amongst many others. Digno Garcia died in hospital in the city of Geraardsbergen, northern Belgium, February 4, 1984 due to heart problems. In his lifetime he had outputted some 50 albums (including many own compositions), visited 47 countries, and counted royalty and Salvador Dalí amongst his fans. His 1944 composition "Cascada" (Waterfall) has become a standard of the Paraguayan repertoire.
