Review by Tree Schlosser

The Classic Film Scores Of Dimitri Tiomkin Lost Horizon, performed by the National Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Charles Gerhardt, is an exceptional album that captures the essence of classic Hollywood film scores. The album features the music of Dimitri Tiomkin, one of the most renowned and influential film composers of the 20th century.

The album is a tribute to Tiomkin's masterpiece, Lost Horizon, which won the Academy Award for Best Original Score in 1937. The National Philharmonic Orchestra delivers a powerful and emotive performance, bringing to life the grandeur and majesty of Tiomkin's compositions.

The album includes several pieces from Lost Horizon, such as "The World Outside," "Share the Joy," and "The Man Who Knew," all of which are beautifully arranged and performed. The orchestra's rendition of "The World Outside" is especially noteworthy, as it captures the sense of wonder and discovery that the film conveys.

Other highlights of the album include Tiomkin's compositions from other classic films, such as High Noon, The Alamo, and The Guns of Navarone. The orchestra's performance of the iconic theme from High Noon is particularly impressive, conveying the tension and drama of the film's climactic showdown.

Great Western music as only a Russian could write.

One of my favorite westerns of all time!! Arthur Hunnicutt was wonderful...should have won the Best Supporting Actor award.

One of the greatest of the neglected classics of the golden age. Probably only neglected because of the unfortunate state of the print. You can blame the then studio executives. I hope Warner Archive can find a way to restore it and give it a release.

I think there's some similarity in this to music of Delius.

As movie music goes.. this is lovely. The big, full orchestral "sweep" is simply delicious.
But, better altogether.. it is a cracking film to watch.. and every scene Arthur Hunnicutt seems to steal the whole show. Simply superb, tho in truth, with age the existing film footage is NOT in the best condition, which is sad. Perhaps one day some enlightened soul might restore the film.? What a joy that would be.. hmmmm.
Magic happens.. and here we are looking at it.

Buddy Baer who played the French Canadian giant was the brother of Max Baer, heavyweight champ.  Buddy fought Joe Louis twice for the title himself.  Wonderful haunting movie.

I think Jack Dempsey was equal if better.  If you7 ever see his fight with Jess Willard who was 6' 6.5" 245 pounds Dempsey was 187 Lbs. and 6" 1". he knocked Willard down 7 times the first round and finished the fight the second round you see the fight on YouTube

Dimitri Tiomkin created some of the most wonderful music I've ever heard. The Big Sky, Friendly Persuasion, Guns of Navarone and High Noon
