Born in '51, this record was mine, bought in a camera shop, I remember choosing it. I was terrified and influenced by it. I was an ugly child and I think I cried listening to this. Took me 25 years to finally bloom.

How is it I never, ever heard this? What I mean is, it's a story:
I was born in '52. And my first conscious memory is lying on the floor, listening to Don Wilson's 78 record of "The Little Engine that Laughed". It was released, if memory serves, in '53. So the years passed. My parents kept that record. I left home. When digital technology hit the marker, I "borrowed" that old record, took it home, ripped it, but I sorta kinda never bothered returning it. "Smokey" is now safely packed away and of all that "stuff" a man accumulates, keeps, as well as simply forgets to throw away, "The Little Engine that Laughed" is at the top of my keepsakes that I'm passing down to our two daughters.
So this little song/story just made my day.
