Review by yudha sasmita

Sandhog, the album by Earl Robinson and Waldo Salt, is a classic example of American folk music. The album features 12 tracks that capture the essence of the working-class struggles of the 1930s. Earl Robinson's soulful voice combined with Waldo Salt's poignant lyrics create an emotional journey that is both inspiring and thought-provoking.

The album opens with the track "Sandhog," which tells the story of the men who built the tunnels under New York City. The song is a powerful tribute to the men who risked their lives to create the infrastructure that we take for granted today. Other tracks like "The Ballad of Barney Graham" and "The House I Live In" also deal with issues of social justice and inequality.

One of the standout tracks of the album is "Joe Hill," a tribute to the legendary labor activist and songwriter. Earl Robinson's rendition of the song is hauntingly beautiful and captures the spirit of Joe Hill's struggle for workers' rights.

I recall seeing Sandhog as a kid in New York and this song has stayed with me to this day though I hadn't heard it again (other than in memory) until now. Thanks! And kudos to Earl Robinson, who also gave us the music to The House I Live In.

I was a NYC sandhog in the early 1970's.  I never knew this fold opera existed. I stumbled across it today.....now I need to find the whole score
