Review by Tygerr Recchia

Happy Six's album Je Ne Sais Papa My Little Bimbo Down On The Bamboo Isle is a delightful and energetic collection of jazz tunes that transport listeners to a bygone era of flappers, speakeasies, and swing dancing. The band's musicianship is top-notch, with lively and intricate arrangements that showcase each member's skills on their respective instruments. The title track, "Je Ne Sais Papa," is a standout, with a catchy melody and playful lyrics that will have listeners tapping their feet and singing along. Other highlights include "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "Ain't Misbehavin'," both of which are classic jazz standards given fresh and lively interpretations by the Happy Six. this album is a must-listen for anyone who loves jazz music and wants to experience the joy and energy of the genre's golden age.

About The Happy Six

Organised by band contractor , this group recorded extensively for Columbia between 1919 and 1923, employing some of the most important names of the jazz and dance band world of the time, including Rudy Wiedoeft, Ross Gorman, Clyde Doerr, Bennie Krueger, Earl Oliver, Clarence Gransie, Ted Fiorito, Phil Ohman, and xylophonists Joe and George Hamilton Green. Most importantly, some of their records feature pioneer New Orleans musicians Alcide Nunez and Tom Brown, being the first made by the latter - a key figure in both the earliest New Orleans bands to move to the North and also the New Orleans revival of the 1940s.
