Howlin' Widow - Demo

Review by Mathew Tragash

Howlin' Widow's debut album, Demo, is a raw and powerful collection of blues-infused tracks that showcase the band's impressive musicianship and songwriting skills.

From the opening track, "Bad Luck", with its driving rhythm and blistering guitar solos, to the haunting ballad "Lonesome Road", the album is a journey through the ups and downs of life, love, and loss.

Lead singer and guitarist, Jack Howl, delivers each song with a soulful grit and intensity that draws the listener in and keeps them hooked. The rhythm section, consisting of bassist Joe Bones and drummer Billy Blaze, provides a solid foundation for the songs, while also adding their own flair and energy to the mix.

Standout tracks include the hard-hitting "Devil's Dance", the bluesy "Black Cat Blues", and the groovy "Shake It Down". But really, every song on Demo is worth a listen.

About Howlin' Widow

Howlin Widow was a short lived band from Belfast, Northern Ireland, formed by guitarists Jason Hendry and Gary Spence, and bassist Chris Burns in late 2007. Tony Murray joined on drums in early 2008 and they would remain a 4-piece-band. Tom Clarke announced the break-up of and was invited to sit in on Howlin Widow rehearsals which led to him joining as vocalist and lyricist. A line-up change at the end of 2009 saw Dave Boyd joining on bass in early 2010. Four songs were then recorded at a different studio, My First Recorder, Belfast, in mid 2010. 2010 saw the band playing more gigs than in the previous year. By Dec 2010 Howlin' Widow teamed up with Mudd Wallace to produce some fresh recordings at the Culturlann Theatre. The band regrouped in May 2011 but by this time guitarist Jason and Tony decided to leave. The remaining members called time on Howlin Widow.
