Review by E S

Numero DVol is an album that showcases the musical talents of Hugh Hopper, Simon Picard, Steve Franklin, and Charles Hayward. The album is a fusion of jazz, rock, and avant-garde music that creates a unique sound that is both complex and captivating.

The album consists of ten tracks, each with its own distinct personality. The opening track, "A Different Face," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its intricate guitar riffs and complex drum patterns. Other standout tracks include "Take a Deep Breath," which features a haunting saxophone melody, and "Flight To the Sun," which has a more upbeat, rock-inspired sound.

Throughout the album, the musicians demonstrate their technical prowess, with impressive solos and intricate arrangements. However, this is not a purely technical album, as the musicians also bring a great deal of emotion and feeling to their performances.

Hugh Hopper was a British progressive rock and jazz fusion musician who mainly played the bass guitar, but also the saxophone, guitar and mellophone as well as being a composer and an author. He was born in Canterbury, Kent, England, 29 April 1945. He was part of the so-called 'Canterbury scene'. Originally a member of The , he replaced in in 1969 and stayed with the group until 1973, into what is considered the classic and most famous incarnation of the band. After leaving Soft Machine, he played mostly in the jazz/jazz rock vein with a vast number of different bands, many of them adopting a name with the word 'Soft' as a reference to his glorious past. He died from leukaemia in Whitstable, Kent, 7 June 2009.
