Jacques Thollot - Résurgence

Review by Antonio Centeno

Résurgence is an album by French jazz drummer and composer Jacques Thollot. Released in 1976, the album features a unique blend of avant-garde jazz and experimental music that showcases Thollot's innovative approach to drumming and composition.

The album opens with the title track, a haunting and atmospheric piece that sets the tone for the rest of the record. Thollot's drumming is sparse and precise, creating a sense of tension and anticipation as the other instruments gradually join in. The saxophone and trumpet solos that follow are equally restrained and evocative, adding to the overall mood of the piece.

Other standout tracks on the album include "Gang", a frenetic and chaotic piece that showcases Thollot's incredible drumming skills, and "Enfance", a slow and introspective ballad that features a beautiful trumpet solo from Jean-Francois Canape.
