- One of the Newest acts to sign with Federal Records are The Famous Flames with lead vocalist James Brown. All members of this group are natives of Georgia and beside Brown they include vocalist Sylvester Keels, Tenor; Johnny Terry, Baritone; Bobby Byrd, Bass; musicians Nuspendle Knox and Nalfoyd Scott, Tenor Sax and Guitarist, respectively. Leader Brown was born in Augusta, Georgia, May 3, 1933.
- All the boys in The Famous Flames are in their late teens or early twenties and have that youthful drive that makes one sit up and take notice. All of the group's arrangements are done by James Brown who is also the lead voice for the group. Sylvester Keels, Bobby Byrd, Nalfoyd Scott and Naspendle Knox all played together on the basketball team for Whitman High School in Toccoa, Georgia.
