Jimmy McGriff - The Main Squeeze

Review by Stephen Bruce

The Main Squeeze, an album by Jimmy McGriff, is a fantastic collection of tracks that showcase the legendary jazz organist's virtuosity and versatility. Released in 1974, the album features McGriff's signature blend of blues, funk, and soul, with some Latin and gospel influences thrown in for good measure.

One of the standout tracks on the album is the opening number, "The Worm Turns," a funky instrumental that sets the tone for the rest of the record. McGriff's organ playing is tight and groovy, and he's backed by a solid rhythm section that includes drummer Bernard "Pretty" Purdie and guitarist Horace Ott.

Another standout track is "Blue Juice," a bluesy number that features McGriff's soulful vocals. The song has a laid-back, almost lazy feel to it, but it's still incredibly catchy and memorable.
