Review by André Vallença

Miles Coltrane is a classic jazz album that features the legendary musicians John Coltrane and Miles Davis. The album is a perfect example of the genius of these two jazz icons and their incredible synergy on the stage. The album features six tracks, each showcasing the raw talent and improvisational skills of both Coltrane and Davis.

The opening track, "All Blues," is a masterpiece that sets the tone for the rest of the album. It's a slow, bluesy tune that highlights the understated, yet powerful, playing of Miles Davis. The track is followed by "Blue in Green," a hauntingly beautiful ballad that features Coltrane's signature saxophone sound.

The album's centerpiece is the epic "So What," a 9-minute masterpiece that showcases the incredible interplay between Davis and Coltrane. The track is a perfect example of how these two musicians could create magic together, with each one pushing the other to new heights.

Other standout tracks on the album include "Flamenco Sketches," a beautiful, Spanish-tinged tune, and "Freddie Freeloader," a catchy, upbeat track that features some of Davis' most memorable trumpet playing.

American saxophonist and jazz composer. Born: 23 September 1926 in Hamlet, North Carolina, USA. Died: 17 July 1967 in Huntington, Long Island, New York, USA (aged 40) from liver cancer. John Coltrane was one of the most influential musicians of the twentieth century. His early recordings capture a musician in the relatively conventional confines of bebop and hardbop, but his enduring legacy primarily rests on the modal jazz pioneered by his classic quartet (1960-64) and by free jazz explorations late in his career. He recorded more than fifty albums as a leader and appeared as a sideman on many other albums, performing with other giants of jazz like and . Coltrane received numerous awards including a posthumous "Special Citation" from the Pulitzer Prize Board in 2007 for his 'masterful improvisation, supreme musicianship and iconic centrality to the history of jazz'. As his life progressed, his music and outlook became increasingly spiritual. After his death he was proclaimed as a saint by the African Orthodox church that took his name. Coltrane's second wife was pianist ; their son is also a saxophonist.

The last 2 tracks on this are actually not live. They come from Miles' first session for Columbia and are on the 'Round About Midnight album.
