Laibach - Also Sprach Zarathustra

Review by Roberto Enver

Laibach's album "Also Sprach Zarathustra" is an impressive and thought-provoking work of art. The album is a tribute to the famous work of Friedrich Nietzsche, and Laibach has managed to capture the essence of the philosopher's ideas and beliefs in their music. The album is a fusion of industrial and classical music, with powerful vocals and instrumentals that are both haunting and beautiful.

The album is divided into three parts, each of which explores a different aspect of Nietzsche's philosophy. The first part, "Ein Opfer," is a powerful and intense piece that sets the tone for the rest of the album. The second part, "Ein Tanz," is a more upbeat and energetic piece that showcases Laibach's ability to create complex and intricate soundscapes. The final part, "Ein Ausgang," is a beautiful and melancholic piece that brings the album to a close.

Throughout the album, Laibach's use of vocals is particularly impressive. The vocals are powerful and emotive, and they add an extra layer of depth and meaning to the music. The lyrics are also well-written and thought-provoking, and they do an excellent job of capturing the essence of Nietzsche's ideas.

Laibach - Also Sprach Zarathustra ()An avant-garde score composed for a play named "Also Sprach Zarathustra" (not the 2001 theme), all but one song is a combination of synthetic orchestrations and symphonic percussion and deep gutteral spoken vocals, this is a throwback to such early works as "Baptism". One track features a true orchestra and a female vocalist not a member of the band. As a whole, this is not exactly party music, but is a true score much like one would expect from Glass or Nyman, but with darker overtones. It is a departure from their recent works, but proves they have not forgotten their early works. Some elements remind one of the very early works by Test Dept, but not so cacophonous.
