Film and TV score composer, arranger, conductor & pianist, born June 21, 1932 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has received four Grammy Awards (with twenty-one nominations), one Cable ACE Award, and six Oscar nominations. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and finally received an honorary Oscar in November 2018 in recognition of his successful career. Schifrin met Dizzy Gillespie in 1956 and joined Gillespie's quintet in 1960. He wrote the extended works "Gillespiana" and "The New Continent" for Gillespie.

Imagine my surprise to find this, my most favorite piece of music of all time. I fell in love with "Magic Carousel" (there is no 'The'--trust me, I ordered the sheet music back in 1977), especially when it played over and over through the end credits. The album was a disappointment. Cut 3 is called "Magic Carousel" but they rocked it up and I couldn't bear it. The last cut on the album is a very brief 1:17 cut of it in all it's splendor though. Then, there is an album of Bernard Hermann Alfred Hitchcock music that OPENS with a 5:49 cut of it played with full orchestra. Now that was satisfying. It turns out that Bernard Hermann had originally conceived the tune and when he died, Lalo Schifrin stepped in to complete it.

At an event in Hollywood that the America Cinemateque was hosting, saluting Lalo Schifrin, I brought my CD cover art and got Lalo Schifrin to sign it! He must have been bewildered, but at age 15, this music (the whole score should have been nominated for an Oscar that year), but "Magic Carousel" by itself, got me through some very hard times. I went to the film "Rollercoaster" the second of the three films released in 'Sensurround' ("Earthquake" and "Midway" were the other two), several times and sat there mesmerized through those long end credits. Thank you deancook652 for your version of the piece. I absolutely adore it.

One of the more amazing movie musical scores of the past 50 years. This theme made the movie 'Rollercoaster' the success that it was. The music is magical, haunting, simple and beautiful all at the same time. Thank you, Mr Schifrin, for the wonderful memories. 'Rollercoaster' has been one of my favorite movie for many years, and the music has a lot to do with it.
