Mac DeMarco's debut album, Rock And Roll Night Club, is a unique blend of rock, pop, and jazz influences that showcase his diverse musical talents. The album features ten tracks that take listeners on a journey through different genres and styles, showcasing DeMarco's ability to create music that is both catchy and experimental.
From the opening track, "Rock And Roll Night Club," to the closing track, "Me And Jon, Hanging On," the album is filled with catchy hooks, groovy basslines, and smooth vocals that are impossible not to enjoy. DeMarco's unique style is evident throughout the album, and he effortlessly blends different genres to create a sound that is entirely his own.
One of the standout tracks on the album is "Baby's Wearing Blue Jeans," which features a catchy guitar riff, smooth vocals, and a groovy bassline that will have listeners tapping their feet in no time. Canadian musician, singer, songwriter and producer, born 30 April 1990 in Duncan, British Columbia, Canada.
Changed name to Mac DeMarco from 'Vernor Winfield McBriare Smith IV' at age 5 after his mother's maiden name (Agnes DeMarco).
Released Bandcamp and cassette releases under the alias Makeout Videotape (which also included Alex Calder for live performances) prior to signing w/ Captured Tracks and going by his real name.

Mac DeMarco's first EP, Rock and Roll Night Club, is a playful, low-fi introduction to this indie pop legend. It's far from his best work, but it is a fun listen every now and then.'Me and Jon Hanging on' points towards his far superior second album in a few ways: it's one of only a few songs on here where Mac is using his natural singing voice, the guitar tone is identical to songs featured on his successive release, it's the only thing on here that can be considered psychedelic (imo) as it has a distinctly sleepy, hazy feel, along with extended high vocal notes that are a noticeable characteristic of his next album, and while it's not quite as good as nearly any song on his next album, it is still the best of the bunch from this album.A few of the early songs on here have really simple riffs and while they're still good tracks, they do grate. Thankfully the next songs are less repetitive, although they do blend together a bit, with only a few exceptions (the worthwhile bonus track 'Only You' is another highlight, with its midnight club atmosphere).Rock and Roll Night Club is indicative of Mac's talents, but his potential is far from realised. It's a lightweight but enjoyable listen.-6/10
