Malija, the jazz trio comprising Mark Lockheart on saxophone, Liam Noble on piano and Jasper Høiby on bass, have released their second album, Instinct. The trio's debut, The Day I Had Everything, was hailed as one of the best jazz releases of 2015, and their follow-up is equally impressive.

Instinct is a collection of original compositions that showcase the trio's virtuosity and tight interplay. The album opens with "Hurry Up and Wait", a frenetic tune that sets the tone for the rest of the record. Lockheart's saxophone is the driving force behind the track, while Noble's piano and Høiby's bass provide a solid foundation.

The album's title track is a slower, more contemplative piece that showcases the trio's ability to create a mood. Lockheart's saxophone is particularly expressive here, and the piece builds to a satisfying climax.
