The Newbeats - Run Baby Run

Review by Pauline Adair

The Newbeats' album, Run Baby Run, is a delightful collection of pop and rock tunes that will have listeners tapping their toes and singing along. The trio's harmonies are tight and their energy is infectious, making this album a perfect addition to any party playlist.

The title track, "Run Baby Run," is a catchy tune that will have listeners singing along with the chorus in no time. The driving beat and upbeat lyrics make it a standout on the album. "Break Away (From That Boy)" is another standout track, with its fun, playful lyrics and catchy melody.

The Newbeats also showcase their vocal range on slower ballads like "The Way You Do the Things You Do" and "I'm a Teardrop." These songs allow the group to showcase their ability to harmonize and convey emotion through their music.

Not everyones cuppa tea and surely one of Mr Searlings more poppy Northern tunes but I suppose this is 78 time so its getting towards what is his best era. IMHO anyway.

They were great - that Larry Henley voice! Together with Franki Valli he made falsetto mainstream not freakish (as with Larry whatisname's "Tiptoe thru' the Tulips") progenitor of George MacRae, Communards and a few others. Don't think The Newbeats ever toured GB sadly.

1966 I was 16 years young, I loved this group and the guy with that crazy way up there voice, similar to Frankie Valli, what a VOICE he has !!!

I remember Renato - he used to go to the Union Jack club in Bradford in the mid seventies.

There used to be a little club in Bradford called 'The Hole In The Wall'. It was a dark fluorescent and surreal world! And for those of us far too young for Torch; The Wheel; Vavas etc., at weekends, The Hole was the in place. That's where -amongst others- I served my Northern apprenticeship; and that's where I first heard this falsetto classic. Ok, we know of Run Baby Run! Bread and Butter! But give this any time. Enough said! Black Toddy; COOP
