Peggy Lee - Sings Leiber Stoller

Review by Ulises Ramirez

Peggy Lee's album, Sings Leiber Stoller, showcases her vocal prowess and versatility as she takes on the iconic songs of songwriting duo Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Lee's smooth and sultry voice is a perfect fit for the bluesy, rock and roll-inspired tunes that defined the era.

The album features classic hits like "Kansas City," "I'm a Woman," and "Hound Dog," which Lee infuses with her own unique style and interpretation. Her phrasing and delivery are impeccable, and she effortlessly captures the spirit and energy of the songs.

One standout track is "Is That All There Is?," a melancholy ballad that showcases Lee's ability to convey complex emotions with subtlety and nuance. Her performance is both haunting and poignant, and it's easy to see why the song became one of her signature tunes.

The piano, strings, bass and flute combine to make this truly stand out as one of Peggy's most sexy "G spot" numbers. However, I could do without the intro altogether. It's totally unwanted and unneeded. Get right down to it and add a flute instrumental in the middle.

Wore out old vinyl "Mirrors" Lp and always amazing this masterpiece was not a Grammy Award Winning blockbuster as it sounds like one, Peggy Lee in superb form "Some Cats Know" a cool jazzy exotic example of artistry at its peak, too bad music industry in a coma at that time...should have risen to the splendid occasion...

Perfect match between song, arrangement and singer. Peggy Lee is fantastic. For me, " Mirrors" is one of the best albums ever made.

the song is about patricide. Mary Jane killed her father... hence the mess she made of her pretty white dress.

This is, undoubtedly, by far, the creepiest and the most awesome psychological song Peggy Lee has ever did. That eerie orchestra is just...wow.

one of my favourite peggy lee albums. i haven't a clue what this is about but the sinister repeated phrase 'how old were you when your father went away' spooks me. great track thank you for sharing.
