Ran Blake - Epistrophy

Epistrophy is a stunning album by the legendary jazz pianist Ran Blake. Released in 2019, this album showcases Blake's signature style of blending jazz with classical music, creating a unique and hauntingly beautiful sound.
The album features a mix of original compositions and covers, including pieces by Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, and Ornette Coleman. Each track is a masterclass in musicianship, with Blake's virtuosic piano playing accompanied by a range of talented musicians on saxophone, trumpet, bass, and drums.
One of the standout tracks on the album is Blake's arrangement of Monk's "Epistrophy," which he transforms into a brooding and atmospheric piece that is both haunting and beautiful. Another highlight is the album's closing track, "Goodbye Porkpie Hat," a tribute to the late saxophonist Lester Young that features a stunning solo by saxophonist Scott Robinson.
