Sorry that I didn't scroll down to see Johnny Walsh get a mention below... and it is on YouTube after all. Similar backing but not the same - Sir C's is in D, and JW sings in F# - I've just transcribed it. The follow up, "Beyond Our Love
OK, I've just found among my old 45s!!...the vocal version was by Johnny Walsh, backed by Don Ralke (Plas Johnson on tenor sax, by the sound of it). It came out in UK on Warner Bros WB.40. Sir Chauncey's is on WB.9, - its B side is "Tenderfoot". To my surprise I have 2 copies of it. There was a follow up called "Midi-Midinette" c/w "Beyond Our Love" on WB.36.
Can anyone remember who did the vocal version, as a B side to "Girl Machine" ? ( which I can't find on YouTube amazingly!) Johnny someone?
They don't make 'em like this anymore. Beautiful!
I have asked people for years if they knew what this instrumental was, including other musicians and music teachers. I would sing the melody for them or play it on piano for them, and no one has ever known what it was or thought they'd ever heard it before. It used to be played on the radio all the time in the '60's, and I always waited for the DJ to announce the name of the recording and they never did.
I just thought of doing a search for "instrumentals of the '60's" and after doing a bit of listening, I can't believe I finally found it... and the correct version, too...!
It's just the most beautiful piece of music, and while it certainly got the airplay it deserved, it's too bad the DJ's never told anyone what it's name was, at least where I live....

This was the "pick of the week" by one of the stations in L A in the spring of 1960. I remember driving down 101, sipping beer and watching the ocean as we were on spring break from the University of Arizona.
I once had a white Persian show cat named Beautiful Obsession & another called Soul Coaxing & yet another called Laughter in the Rain.
This is the most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard. My absolute favorite !
In my mind the face of someone I love appears. He never knew. I never told him. All I have to do is listen to this music. My heart will never mend. The fault is mine.
Johnny Walsh did a great vocal on Warner Bros.and this was the backing track used on the 45.
The great Ernie Freeman, arranger, instrumentalist, musical director for Reprise Records, and working with Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, the Platters, Connie Francis, Simon and Garfunkel, Julie London, et al.. He did it all. Oh, yeah...he was also B. Bumble and the Stingers, if anyone remembers "Bumble Boogie"
It took me sixty years to find a copy of this in mint condition..........it was worth the wait !
One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever. I owned it.
Dedicated to my Beautiful Obsession, way back when.
