If You're Ready Come Go With Me, the 1968 album by Jimmy McGriff, is a classic example of the soul-jazz genre. The album features McGriff on the Hammond B-3 organ, accompanied by a group of talented musicians including tenor saxophonist Fats Theus, guitarist Larry Frazier, and drummer Marion Booker Jr.
The album kicks off with the title track, a cover of the classic Motown hit by The Staple Singers. McGriff's organ work adds a groovy, bluesy feel to the song, and Theus' saxophone solo is a standout moment. The album also includes several original compositions by McGriff, such as "The Worm," a funky instrumental that showcases the band's tight rhythm section.
One of the highlights of the album is the cover of the Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby." McGriff's arrangement transforms the song into a slow, bluesy groove, with Frazier's guitar providing a haunting melody. Theus' saxophone solo adds a touch of soulful melancholy to the song.
