Dodgy - Stand Upright In A Cool Place

Review by Alex Dubovoy

Dodgy's 2012 album, Stand Upright In A Cool Place, is a collection of upbeat, catchy tracks that showcase the band's signature sound. From the opening track, "What Became of You," the album sets a lively pace that doesn't let up until the final song, "You Give Drugs a Bad Name."

The album's standout tracks include "The Hills," which features a driving beat and a catchy chorus, and "The Sun in the Sky," which has a more laid-back, acoustic feel. The lyrics throughout the album are introspective and contemplative, exploring themes of love, loss, and the passage of time.

About Dodgy

UK indie-pop band, formed in 1990 in Hounslow. After Nigel left to record solo and pursue other interests in 2002, the band carried on with a new singer and additional guitarist. Dodgy "Mk. II" were short-lived and the band split up soon after, with Andy and Matt pursuing other interests and joining other bands and "supergroups". In 2009 the original lineup got back together for a week-long run of gigs at the Barfly in Camden and toured their comeback album in the winter of 2011 and throughout 2012, including a tour of the highlands and islands of Scotland.

Nice song, but not sure I'm really enjoying Mathew's "restrained" drumming here. Much prefer his Moon-esque pounding from the Free, Peace, Sweet era.

Just seen you tonight at the watering hole in Perranporth, Awesome gig, brilliant performance, and to tell you the truth I only popped out for a pint and some spicy meatballs. But that aside really really you made tonight one that the town will remember for a long time, Cheers and thanks

My favourite song of theirs of recent times. Sounds like something straight from their 90's era. Love their summery poppy rock sound :)
