Don & Juan Willis Jackson - Magic Wand bw Wine O Wine

Review by Toshon Jennings

Don & Juan Willis Jackson's latest album, Magic Wand bw Wine O Wine, is a mesmerizing blend of soulful melodies and groovy beats. The album features two tracks, each with its unique flavor and style.

The title track, Magic Wand, is a foot-tapping, head-bobbing number that sets the tone for the album. The smooth vocals and catchy hooks make this track an instant favorite.

Wine O Wine, on the other hand, is a slow-burning ballad that showcases the soulful voice of Don Willis Jackson. The lyrics are poignant and heartfelt, and the music is beautifully arranged, creating a haunting and emotive atmosphere.

Roland Trone , Claude Johnson of the Geneies fame are singing one of my favorites. In 1961 both were painters and would sing as they painted. Well some one heard them and passed the word along. What's Your Name was the best of theirs. But most of their other ballads were just as great. This song was originally on the Big Top label in 1962.

Great 50's sound, wonderful harmony. Love the echo from the back-up singers, that is what we looking for back in the 50's. Thanks for the memories.

Years ago, I use to call the radio station 3WS out of Pittsburgh on Sunday evenings and request this song. I have always loved song more than Don and Juan's biggest hit "What's Your Name". Another fine song by Don and Juan is "Two Fools Are We"

I also like the vocals by his group, the 4'Gators, Charles! Here's the obituary for this great tenor saxophonist from the New York Times, October of 1987: https://www.nytimes.com/1987/10/30/obituaries/willis-jackson-59-tenor-saxophonist-in-jazz-and-blues.html
