Elton John - El Zorro The Fox

Review by Joe King

El Zorro The Fox is the twenty-seventh studio album by Elton John, released in 1985. The album is a departure from John's usual style, incorporating Latin rhythms and instrumentation into his sound.

The album opens with the title track, "El Zorro The Fox," which sets the tone for the rest of the record. The song features a driving beat and catchy melody, with John's piano playing taking a backseat to the percussion and horns.

Other standout tracks include "Mexican Vacation (Kids In The Candlelight)" and "The Rumour (Elton's Song)," both of which showcase John's ability to write catchy pop songs with a Latin flair.

Despite the change in style, El Zorro The Fox still contains the emotional depth and introspection that fans have come to expect from John's music. "Slow Rivers," a duet with Cliff Richard, is a beautiful ballad that showcases John's ability to convey complex emotions through his singing.

El Zorro The Fox is a unique and enjoyable addition to Elton John's discography. While it may not be his most commercially successful album, it shows his willingness to take risks and explore new musical territory.

I agree, The Fox was an excellent album but don’t know why it do well or really noticed. But anyway he did absolutely amazingly bloody awesome in his entire career!

I always heard this song as Elton and Gary Osborne's oblique commentary on the Berlin Wall (which blessedly fell nine years after this was recorded), though I'm sure it was only about the eradication of EMOTIONAL barriers of the heart. If Osborne had been more of a topical lyric writer like Bernie Taupin, "Breaking Down Barriers" might have indeed had a more political aspect to it.

Let's see, ripe for official DVD/Blu-Ray release: the entire 1970 Troubador show (or as much footage that exists from it); a remastered Live In Australia package; and, of course, VISIONS a.k.a. THE FOX.

Overproduced '80s sound. The best EJ albums are the ones that aren't glomming onto the latest audio fads/trends . The title track (The Fox) is by far the best track (imho)...and has the simple production that I wish the entire album had. I like a few others too...but I'm one of those that thinks everything EJ did from the self-title album thru Blue Moves was perfect.

The Fox is the best Elton John Album of the 80s along with 2 Low 4 Zero which is a great pop album, but the fox is in a different league.

This video and song bring back a lot of early 70s Elton John. The glasses, his hair, his falsetto and piano playing... it all reminds me too much of him in the early 70s, like a throwback video or somethin' lol.

Thank you for posting these!  I still have the Laserdisc, but the player died years ago.

His piano playing in this song is virtuosic. Can't get enough of this song!

I really don't get why the album "The Fox" didn't get that much attention.. It's a fabulous album.

Back in the late 1980s, I spend a couple of years driving to different video stores across L.A. looking for the full "Visions" video and never could find it.  Thanks for posting.
