Gene Pitney - Time And The River

Review by Tommy Seilheimer

Time and the River, the final album by Gene Pitney, is a fitting tribute to the late singer-songwriter's legacy. Released posthumously, the album showcases Pitney's signature lush orchestration and emotive vocals, as well as his talent for crafting poignant ballads and upbeat pop numbers.

Opening with the wistful title track, Pitney's voice soars over sweeping strings and delicate piano, setting the tone for the album's reflective mood. Standout tracks include "Yesterday's Hero," a bittersweet ode to lost love, and "I'm Gonna Find Myself a Girl," a catchy, upbeat tune that showcases Pitney's playful side.

Throughout the album, Pitney's lyrics explore themes of love, loss, and the passing of time, with a sense of nostalgia that is both poignant and uplifting. Fans of Pitney's earlier work will find much to love here, while newcomers will discover a rich and rewarding catalogue of songs from one of the greats of 20th-century pop music.
