The Last Bison - EP

Review by Shadi Barghash

Last Bison's EP is a stunning collection of tracks that showcase the band's impressive musical prowess and artistic vision. From the opening notes of "Switzerland," it's clear that this is a group that knows how to craft a memorable melody and build a rich sonic landscape.

The EP is a masterclass in genre-bending, with elements of folk, rock, and even classical music all woven seamlessly together. The band's use of strings and woodwinds adds a sense of grandeur and emotional depth to tracks like "Echoes in the Valley" and "River Rhine."

Lyrically, the EP is introspective and poetic, with lines that are both relatable and thought-provoking. "Traveler's Song" is a standout, with its haunting refrain of "I'm a bird, I'm a bird, I'm a bird in the sky" evoking a sense of longing and freedom.

Lyrics
We tried to sleep up in the banks of snow
But soon discovered it was far too cold
So we then retreated into town
To find a place where there was level ground

Oh
Call home

Oh oh Switzerland
You've taken way my breath now once again
You've left me with a sense of compassion
For the ones who
Cant pick them selves up off the ground

Oh Switzerland
I never thought id have you as a friend
I'm praying it was not at all pretend
I need you now
To help pick me up from off the ground

Our drinks were hardly worth the price we paid
But we thanked God for them anyways and
With five minutes left we broke our backs
To spend more money than either of us had

Oh
Call home
Love to Switzerland❤???

I remember listening to this the first time. It's not one I listen to all the time but when I miss someone I do. Small songs like these always sound the best for certain situations.

I see a lot of comments about how sweet or comforting of a song this is, but does anyone else feel something eerie when they listen? The way he pleads for Switzerland makes me think of pleading for peace, as if he's in some form of distraught. I don't really know the artist or their intentions but I like this song because of a hidden narrative (that may or may not actually exist).

it's so upsetting how slept on they are. I had their song sleep as an alarm ringtone for 2 years. I've written three short stories to their song cypress queen. ad this song has helped even out my rougher moods since the day I heard it. their albums are the main reason I started listening to vinyl
