Review by Les James

The album Piano Concerto No 3 Sarcasms by S Prokofiev Dmitri Alexeyev The London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Yuri Temirkanov is a stunning masterpiece that showcases the immense talent of all the artists involved. The album features the brilliant and complex Piano Concerto No 3 by Sergei Prokofiev, which is brought to life by the virtuosic playing of pianist Dmitri Alexeyev.

The London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Yuri Temirkanov, provides a rich and dynamic backdrop to the concerto, providing the perfect balance of power and delicacy. The orchestra's precision and attention to detail are evident throughout the album, creating a truly immersive and captivating listening experience.

The album's highlight is undoubtedly the third movement, which features a fiery and energetic performance by Alexeyev that perfectly captures the sarcasm and wit of Prokofiev's music. The orchestra's accompaniment is equally impressive, providing a lively and playful counterpoint to Alexeyev's virtuosity.

I love that last one especially. I don't know if the point is to be "sarcastic" but it definitely sounded like it--made me laugh.

that's exactly how prokofiev's sarcasms should not be played! this music is not spiky and strange at all; it's older than 100 years and oh boy, so many mistakes in reading the text plus no interpretation at all; it may be the time of futurism, that doesn't mean it should sound like a machine; sarcasm is very human after all; try the studies for player piano by conlon nancarrow
