GEEEEEEZE! SUPER AWESOME INDEED!! Thank You for this Video!!
This shows what a BADASS Alex Hill was, as pianist, composer, arranger and bandleader! He was another Duke Ellington. His was one of the top ten unfortunate early deaths in all music
I've loved this record since I first heard it about 40 years ago. This is an excellent transfer -- thank you for posting it!
Hey, isn't Jabbo Smith on this one!!??
Tropical heat!
Very hot!
Ah - "a hit, a very palpable hit"! Thanks for all the trouble, and another fine link, Guv'nah!
Real nice atticus jazz great song
Dig em all, especially Hill and Thomas....3 1/2 stars.....
Arranger, composer, pianist Alex Hill {1906-1937} and this group represent the post -Louis Armstrong generation of black Chicago musicians. Many of them would work in the Earl Hines band. Trombonist John Thomas had recorded with Armstrong's Hot 7. Hill was very successful, well paid but invisible as a staff arranger for Paul Whiteman and Irving Mills before his early death
