Through her first two albums, Alicia Keys emerged as a neo-soul superstar, then with her next two studio LP's, moved away from the soul approach, into more of a mainstream pop diva vein. With Girl on Fire, Alicia Keys seemed to find a balance between those two approaches and, with that balance, her own identity. As someone who always enjoyed her more retro sounding material, I appreciate tracks like "Tears Always Win" most, but there is no denying the inspiration of catchy pop like the title track. All in all, this is may not be Alicia Keys' strongest or most daring release, but it might be her most mature.
